2017 TechFest - Volunteers Needed
Dayton/Miami Valley TechFestTM 2017 - 15th Annual
Dates: Saturday, February 18, 2017 10 AM – 6 PM and Sunday, February 19, 2017 11 AM – 5 PM
Location: Sinclair Community College, 301 West Fourth Street (Address for GPS Setting), Building 12, Dayton Ohio 45402 (no cost for admission or parking)
TechFest is free family fun with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) for grades K-12. Explore 70 + hands-on experiences with STEM exhibits, demonstrations, and games facilitated by engaging professionals involved in STEM. Interact with “info-tainment” speakers on STEM topics, such as an outstanding college chemistry professor, a classical guitar player (who demonstrates the science behind music), a retired math teacher who presents a magic show, and others who deliver entertaining and informative messages on STEM.
Ways to Get Involved with TechFest: 1) Participate in Tech Fest with your youth, grandkids, neighbor kids, nieces and nephews, and the like. You can make a day out of it and plan 3 hours or more in order to interact with all of the activities. 2) Invite youth of friends, co-workers, organization members (social, fraternal, professional, etc.) to experience TechFest. 3) Volunteer by contributing time to make TechFest successful and enhance participants’ experience.
Ways to Volunteer: 1) Pre-TechFest: Advocate TechFest in your favorite school, package flyers for delivery, deliver flyers to schools, or prepare door prizes for presentation. 2) Provide Support During TechFest: Greet visitors, register attendees, enter attendee data, support speakers, or be a Project Management Wizard in the PMI Booth. The specifics are below:
January 19 – February 16 - Advocate for TechFest at your local school building or school district. Choose your school. Schedule your own time for phone calls or visit. Late January deliver prepackaged TechFest flyers to the schools of your choice. (Butler, Clark, Darke, Green, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Warren counties)
January 25 -31 - Package flyers for delivery to 500 schools in the Miami Valley, sort and pack door prizes, or assemble handout bags with programs and maps.
February 18-19 (Sat 10-6) (Sun 11-5) - Greet youth and their parents, register youth and handout program bags, enter registration data, hand-out door prize, support speakers, or serve as project management wizards in the PMI Introduction to Project Management exhibit. All attendees (both adult and youth) are encouraged to wear the colors of your favorite school or organization to show your pride in education, your interest in STEM, and the opportunities that it offers.
After TechFest Later February - Compile data and analyze post project data and lessons learned.
Volunteers sign-up for their choice of as many two-hour shifts of their choosing. Volunteers receive certificates of participation. Registration is done through a private Eventbrite invitation. If you would like to register as a volunteer and did not receive a volunteer invitation via email, please contact Lyle Lockwood (contact information below).
Volunteers from the Miami Valley Chapter have delivered high quality professional execution of servicing over 32,000 Miami Valley youth plus their parents/guardians with smooth ruining and professional quality demeanor. PMI volunteers over shadow other volunteer sources. This has been enabled by the super support by the PMI Board and Website team promoting members to registration as volunteers.
