Topic 1: The Coroner's Office, Opioids, and CSI (by Dr. Kent Harshbarger)

Dr. Harshbarger will be discussing the Coroner's Office, including the types of deaths investigated as well as a few interesting cases that highlight various departments of the crime laboratory.  He will also describe the what is being seen as part of the opioid crisis and how the Coroner's Office can be valuable in a public health crisis.

 

Topic 2: Topics in Agile Practices - Building and Demonstrating Leadership Agility (by Jackie Smith)

During this presentation, attendees will be identifying certain situations to discuss as part of the group.  There will be a group activity to build and demonstrate leadership agility.

Bio of Dr. Kent Harshbarger

Dr. Kent Harshbarger, received his Medical Doctorate (M.D.) degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and his Jurist Doctorate (J.D.) from Southern Illinois University School of Law. He received his Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A) from Wright State University. He completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana and a forensic pathology fellowship at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office in Dayton Ohio.

After training, Dr. Harshbarger worked for a short time as a forensic pathologist serving the majority of central Illinois and then returned to Dayton Ohio to serve as a Deputy Coroner/Forensic Pathologist for Montgomery County in 2002. He currently serves as the Montgomery County Coroner. Dr. Harshbarger also serves as a colonel in the Army Reserve assigned as a Regional Armed Forces Medical Examiner. Dr. Harshbarger holds appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Wright State University School of Medicine and in the Department of Specialty Medicine at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

Bio of Jackie Smith:

Jackie Smith, M. ODL is a Learning and Performance professional with over 20 years of experience. She has worked in a variety of organizations and industries in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.

Currently, Jackie is Vice President of CareSource University at CareSource, a Medicaid managed care organization. She oversees corporate learning, organizational development, and succession planning as well as the company’s performance management processes. CSU has been recognized on Training Magazine’s Top 125 training organizations list for the past seven years, with four consecutive rankings in the top 15. In 2017 and 2018, CSU was named to Chief Learning Officer’s Learning Elite as well.

Prior experience includes running her own Learning & Performance firm, Reflections on Learning, as well as working as a Senior Organizational Development Consultant, Regional Human Resources Manager and Training Specialist in the financial services, retail and transportation industries.

Jackie has presented at national and regional conferences on a variety of leadership skills and building the case for corporate universities. She is a certified facilitator in a variety of training and development programs, organizational assessments and Myers-Briggs profiling and has served as an adjunct faculty member for professional development at Antioch McGregor in Ohio. As a volunteer, she is active in leading business teams into developing countries where they teach business principles and provide consulting services for local leaders.

 

Dinner: The menu is a Dinner Buffet featuring salad, two hot entrees, potatoes, fresh vegetables, bread and dessert. Beverage is your choice of iced tea or coffee.

When you enter the campus area, go towards the left so you park on the north side of the building.  Do not enter via the main doors that are in the center of the building.

 

Professional Development Units:   All attendees will earn two (2) Professional Development Units (PDUs) for use towards the Project Management Professional (PMP) recertification.
