Avoiding the COWDUNG: Inside the Mind of a Strategically-Minded Project Leader

Thursday, September 21, 2017

5:30p - 8:00p

Abstract:  Avoiding the COWDUNG

According to a recent Gartner report, the project and program management role will be completely unrecognizable in five years.  In an increasingly complex world, the ability to lead transformational change efforts will be “far more important than being PMP or PRINCE2 certified in a collection of practices that are rapidly becoming irrelevant.”  But what does such a person look like?  If technical project knowledge and credentials become less relevant, what will take their place?

In Avoiding the COWDUNG, Brad will share what’s amiss with conventional approaches to project management and explain the 3 skills required to be a strategically-minded project leader.  Learn what you need to do today to be ahead of the herd tomorrow!

About the Speaker

Brad founded Strategy 2 Action (S2A) in 2014 with a simple mission: Develop 10 Percenters! A concept based on the fact that fewer than 10% of people say they understand their company’s strategy and its connection to their daily work.  Through his workshops, seminars and strategy coaching, Brad chips away at the divide from both sides by helping the C-suite set a clear, concise and compelling strategic direction, while helping project managers develop their strategic nature.

Prior to founding S2A, Brad served as the chief financial officer and vice president of corporate strategy for a defense and aerospace contract manufacturing firm.  There he managed the firm’s $100M+ project portfolio and successfully turned around the company’s performance on complex Department of Defense projects.

A graduate of the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, Brad holds a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering technology.  Over the course of his highly decorated military career, he served as executive officer, department head, program manager for nuclear electrical systems, and technical advisor for carrier electrical power systems.

Brad is a recognized keynote speaker and thought leader in strategy design and execution.  He is a PhD Fellow at Case Western Reserve University, where his research focuses on strategic effectiveness at both the organizational and individual levels.  In 2016, he was recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier as one of the city’s Forty Under 40 business leaders.  He’s an avid trail runner, red wine enthusiast, and aspiring guitarist who calls Loveland, Ohio home.
