Professional Development Class - Dispute Resolution Course

August 10, 2017
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Hope Hotel
10823 Chidlaw Road
Dayton, OH 45433

The Dayton/Miami Valley Chapter of PMI is offering an opportunity to both earn PDUs as well as build your professional portfolio with dispute resolution certifications.  The Capital University Center of Dispute Resolution is coming to our Chapter to provide two events with a certification available for each day.

Being able to settle differences can make a world of difference in your career.

Strengthen and broaden your conflict management skills to effectively resolve disputes with staff, vendors and others in your work environment.   Unresolved conflicts reduce employee productivity, disrupt the cooperative workplace environment, damage valuable vendor relationships and potentially create unsafe conditions.  Effective conflict resolution skills help individuals to build better workplace relationships, reduce the costs of workplace conflict, increase productivity, and create an environment that values everyone.

Part II (8/10/2017): Effective Conflict Resolution Creates More Effective Workplaces

Managing conflicts in the workplace requires individuals to see another perspective, identify underlying interests, recognize personality differences, recognize cultural difference and effectively communicate during conflicts. This interactive workshop will include brief lectures, group discussions and skill-building activities to address the following questions:

  • Why don’t they see it my way?
  • What is really motivating their competitive behavior?
  • Isn’t there one “correct” way to approach information gathering and decision making?
  • What is wrong with treating everyone the same way in the workplace?
  • What is the best way to communicate during conflicts?
  • How can I anticipate and “stop” conflicts in the workplace?

Participants will gain the following competencies:

  • Basic conflict management theory
  • Ability to understand different perspectives
  • Ability to identify underlying interests that may lead to win-win solutions
  • Ability to recognize different personality types
  • Ability to understand how culture impacts conflicts
  • Ability to share and understand emotions during conflicts
  • Ability to communicate more effectively during conflicts
